Default Wheel assembly fell of while driving down HWY...

As we are on vacation driving down the HWY going 70mph, we left as if we got a blown tire. Luckly my husband had good control over the truck, which is a 2007 chevy silverado 1500, we got the truck pulled over and the tire, gas sideways under the truck! The lugs and tire with brake assembley were all together in the wheel! It looks as it the axel just broke completley in half. The man who towed us said he has never seen anything like this before. We are stuck in a hotel out of state waiting for a chevy delership to open on monday to figure out what is going on. If anyone has any clues to what happen, please let us know! Thanks, and here are a few pictures that we took of the tire....

looks like the bearing sheared off, i never seen that before, make sure the dealer fixes everything, and not just the bearing and brakes, major things could have happened, body damage is for sure, but tierods comes to mind when i think of things i would get looked at

wow glad ya'll are okay as that looks nasty

first things that come to mind are did you feel any vibrations indicated something was up? like tire out of balance

have you done any off-roading that could have stressed it?

Are the tires/wheels the correct offset

where the lugs over torqued

Keep us updated it will be interesting to hear what the dealer says....

I wonder if the hub bearing just seized up and the torque of the wheel sheered the shaft off..that is just plain crazy....

A picture from the manual, it looks that the hub is not even serviceable and is a whole unit....
Save your receipts and take lots of notes....document everything
looks to me to be a manufacturing defect...

There were no noise or vibration. And the truck never goes offroading. We literally were just driving and it happened. Lucky there was no one in the left lane because it jerked us left bad. My husband is at the dealership right now. When he gets back to the hotel I will let u know what they said.
