When did it all start?

When did it all start?
I was wondering when did you guys start working on vehicles? When did you fall in love with the silverado (you all have or else you wouldn't be on this forum).
I'll start. I first fell in love with the silverado because in 1999, my father had a 1991 c3500 that spun a bearing. He decided to rebuild the motor himself. I, being 10, was fascinated and wanted to help with everything. I remember the crank being in his room, the cam in my room, the heads in the living room, and that heavy block on the engine stand. It was so much fun that summer. I remember when we got that thing up and running. It was amazing. I never knew my father and I could do something like that. Little did I know, he had done rebuilds before and actually knew what he was doing. Well, over the next 10 years, he and I put a new motor in two cars, an suv, and another pickup. I ended up getting that c3500 as my first vehicle. I immediately started saving my money and doing stuff to it. I started with the cosmetics. I made it look like a 1994, bought some chrome wheel simulators (it's a dually), put a hotter cam in it, got two subs and a cd player in it. Then I got the best christmas gifts ever: Some headers and a grille guard. I couldn't just put the headers on. I had to get the good ole glasspacks, too. I thought I was something else, cruising around with my amazing 10 mpg. Then the price of gas went to 3.00 a gallon. That ended real quick. Had to go to something that got better mileage. Still have the c3500 and also have my pickup as a DD. When it's warm, I drive my motorcycle (52 mpg feels good). I will always keep that dually. It was what began my love for pickups and working on them.

my first vehicle ever was a 1985 chevy k1500 with a 6inch lift and 35s. When i was 14 i got into truck wasnt old enough to drive but wanted to build my first vehicle not buy it. So i bought three older chevy trucks A 1979 which i used for the engine, a 1985 which i used for the cab and frame, and a 1982 which i picked up for 500 and used the bed, axles, and odds and ends part. it took me one year with my grandpas help and we rebuilt the engine bored .30 over with a 400 crank, and put a 6inch lift and 35,s on it. the truck was a bunch of different colors but was solid as hell and never got stuck!!!! I sold that truck for 4000 dollars and still see it with a fresh gray paint job on it. the truck is awesome!! It almost makes me cry when i see it. but then i laugh when i know hes getting 8 miles per gallon!!

It's hard to sell a first vehicle. I tried to sell that dually, but couldn't follow through with it. When people called, I found my self telling them it was already sold, or it was no longer for sell. Well, looks like I'm done for the night. 12:45 over where I'm at. Then tomorrow I'm off to Dallas. Might still get on during the weekend if I get wi-fi where I'm at. There better be some good stories on here when I'm back, or I'm crackin skulls See you all later.

I guess it started with me when I replaced the intake manifold that we are all so familiar with. And put the lift on it.
That was before I owned it though. When I bought it from Dad in December.
I haven't done much to it since except play with the torsion bar settings.
This thread would really be better open to everyone in the off-topic section of the forum.

My first vehicle was a '73 Vega, built it with my uncle, dropped in a 383 stroker matched to a 3 speed. loved that car...but alas, like all good things, it had to come to an end, specifically a 50 mile an hour end over end into a tree, but that's besides the point. my first silverado came quite a few years later, it was a 78 OOBS, bought it from the tow yard I was working at for $600. didnt do a damn thing to it than traded it for some body work on my 94 cadallic. now I have my '89, actually, my girlfriend bought it for me for valentines day this year. she wanted to keep me busy on my days off. looking forward to getting it into the shape it deserves to be in.

I never have gotten into fixing cars or vehicles in the past and I doubt I will in the future. I have owned three cars in the past but have always wanted a truck but never had any use for it. Three weeks ago I began looking and found the truck of my dreams to date. I work from home and drive very little during the week so gas mileage/prices really are not an issue for me.
I have been very intrigued by these threads and I enjoy reading the forum. I want to do some cools things to my truck but I am afraid if I do that the extended warranty I bought with the truck will be no good. I guess I will have to wait for 3 years to do something to it Until then I can get some good ideas from the other forum users.
