Default First off... The forum is broke to a degree..

I wasted quite a bit of time today trying to sign on here with a new computer. I couldn't remember my password which seems likely but trying to use the password recovery service here was a joke at best.

First off I run/own a much larger forum (different subject matter, not car related.) so I was pretty surprised that I couldn't get the site to mail me a new password even when I managed to get the image it provided to stop spam correctly to accept what I typed. That worked about 1 out of 4 times. Most of the time it just told me I had typed the image in wrong. Nonsense.

About 4 times today I was able to get it to accept my typing of the secret code image and it informed me to check my email. Never showed up. Not in my spam filter or anywhere else. Just not being sent.

Next problem. Most sites, mine included have a forum to provide help to new users where they don't have to have the password especially for the reason that they could be having issues for just that. None here. No help if you aren't able to log on that I saw.

Anyway.. Please take this as constructive criticism. Most newbies would just go somewhere else.

My old name here was Guvner as far as I can tell. If someone has the keys here and would like to email me my password it would be appreciated. I eventually just re-registered since I can create emails on my own server.

Thanks...

Gary

Ps. I really like the site and I've gotten some excellent help here...

It was being sent... it probably recognized a problem with so many attempts and locked you out.
Try loosening your spam settings on your mail server.
I have never heard of the stlaware.com domain, so I don't know how to tell you to do it.

As far as I know, theres no problem with the VBulletin email server. I get e-mails all the time.

You really don't need reminding, but you need to remember your passwords in future or write them down and file them away.

Default Saw the message on the 5 bad attempts... Didn't even try after the second attempt...

Just hit the button and away it went to the spam stopping images to type. I know about them and did them right. I just thought you might want to know. If not, no big deal.

After about 4 tries at typing the images characters (I also hit refresh until I got something that I for sure could read..) it told me it was sending me something to my registered email. (The stlaware.com you mentioned.) It's my site on my server. There's nothing turned on to catch it in other then my home computer's MS Outlook and it wasn't in there. I waited about 20 minutes and nothing. I did it again, had the same problem with the images and character typing. I thought you might want to know about it. Sounds like you're mad that I didn't remember my password and don't want to address the problem.

I was hoping you'd send me my original password so I could use my old name. I guess not.

Nothing has ever shown up in my email and I never tried more then twice to guess the password. I would seriously take a look at your recover password section of the bulletin board. Give it a test run especially on typing the characters. Something's wrong.

Have a good weekend...

Gary

I'm not mad, I'm sorry if I came accross that way... I really didn't mean to. I'm definately looking into the problem.

I am a little annoyed that you posted it in Tahoe. If you have a problem with the site, you post it in CF Help and Suggestion center. Thats not a big deal tho.

I just tried out the password recovery function myself to see if it was working. No problems at all. It accepted the captcha code, got the email within 5 seconds.

I can't send you the original password. Sorry...
I'll try to contact our admin and let him know about the problem and see if there is anything he can do.

Until then, try signing in using 11722 as your password.

Thanks... That's all you can do is see if it does the same for you. I was sort of exact so I wanted you to know...

All the best... Gary

If you reset your password, it usually gives you your registration ID number to log in with, so thats what I provided you with.
I'm still trying to figure out why it wouldn't have worked for you.

I feel you Guvner, ever since the forum upgrade I don't receive any emails period, even to subscribed forums, I've tried un-subscribing and resetting all my settings but to no avail... somethings broke but no biggie...

Come to think of it I have not received any email notifications either. I thought it was something I screwed up, but I guess not.
