'04 Surburban Engine Knock
New guy here.
I bought my Suburban from my brother in law around 9 months ago. 2004 8100 Vortec V8. A couple weeks ago the engine started lightly knocking under acceleration. The same kind of knock you get when you let the oil level get too low. I checked, and i was 4 quarts low! Topped it off, and the knock did not go away. Now it is consuming oil at about 1 quart a week. I drive it about 120 miles a week. I have no clue where the oil is going. I can't find any seepage or leaks anywhere. The knock seems to be getting louder too. At highway speeds, it's now constant. When the knock first started happening, it was only during acceleration. At idle it's gone. Under acceleration it's scary. Any ideas? I thought at first it was a knock sensor, but now I'm afraid it's going to be an expensive fix...
Oh yeah, it's at 95,000 miles, and the oil was just changed in the last week with no change.
The engine light is not illuminated, no smoke from the exhaust either.
Thanks in advance.

It is burning oil. Since it is knocking also you need a engine. And this article explains why you do not see smoke.
