Hey bjaber,
Since you obviously don't know the slightest thing about installing the NAV unit why don't you do yourself a favor and stop posting ignorant and asinine remarks?
I think that we can all easily see what you're all about just by the tone of your posts (not helpful just a jerk).
He simply posted about a NAV unit he has for sell and then you go spewing on about why no one should want it, what the hell’s that all about?
There’s plenty of people out there that have purchased vehicles (you name it) and for whatever reason didn’t wind up with all the options that they wanted so they do what people do, they buy the stuff and not because its cheaper but because they decide they want it.
FYI,
1. The clips don’t break (or even get lose) when removed.
2. The GPS antenna is $36 and installed under the dash panel not in the “drivers side mirror housing”(very easy to do),
3. The short wiring is included with the antenna.
4. The Tahoe is rewired by GM with the exception of a small adapter that you can buy from JB customs to enable the voice recognition and commands $25 (w/shipping) and it plugs right in.
5. You don’t have to cut or splice any factory wires to install the NAV, it is plug-and-play, and many GM dealers will reprogram your radio module for the Nav unit for cheap or free if you bought your Tahoe from them, (see your salesperson).

And to show my ignorance... the voice recognition isn't available by default on the Nav?? Hmmm. No biggie - $25 is not much.

LOL, You probably have a closet full of these things. How about this i will sell mine so the wife is happy. Then, I am sure she would allow me to have one if Dave gave it to me!
OMG,
This is to funny. I have this listed on ebay and look what an ebay user emailed me. Is this one fast working dealership or what? A $500 radio install, HAHAHAHAAHA.
Here is his email word for word!
I spoke with gm. they said programing would only be 85 dollars; however, they would have to pull the dash to install he said an six to eight hour instalation charge @ 80 an hour. the best i could do is 800 shipped to 37558 madison AL. Just wanted to make an offer if noone bids on auction. Thanks for you consideration Caleb

How much money did you "really" save by buying the OEM unit separately? Factor in shipping, tax (if any), Tech2 programming cost, new clips for the dash as they often break when removing them and need replacing (even if they didn't break, they get loose when you put them back and start to rattle), antenna cost (if any...I thought the antenna on top of the truck is the OnStart antenna and I think the GPS antenna is in the driver side-view mirror housing), wiring (if needed from antenna to head unit, etc etc etc. Put it all together and tell me how much money you are really saving. I bet it's not much. If it's truly plug-n-play (+ Tech2 programming), then great for you. But I highly doubt GM would spend the time and money to put the entire nav system wiring provisioning into a truck which doesn't have the system. If they thought better about it and put it in there to make the Nav a dealer/aftermarket-installable option, then hats off to them.
Anyway, look who the preschoolers really are ....you guys having to resort to namecalling from a simple post. You failed to interpret the message I was trying to send which (again) is "Wouldn't it have been a lot less hassle if you just bought the system from the factory and be happy with it without all the commotion and argument with your wife, etc? Help me out here by showing me how much money I lost in buying it from the factory. If you can prove it was a huge difference and took a very short time to install, then I'll shut my mouth. Prove me wrong, please.

I do hear you though, if it's only being done for the reason of saving a buck or two you're really not saving that much, maybe a couple of hundred bucks if even that.
Would you only be saving a buck or two if you got one for $500 with map disc?
Also, if you buy one used, if it doesnt have the exact options such as Nav. That would be another reason you have to purchase them seperately!
