My wife just called not so happy. She had to work for 5 mins to get the car out of Park. She says it has progressively been harder to get out of Park. Any clues on which swich or solenoid can cause this?

Is she depressing the brake pedal? If so, then probably either a module problem or wiring issue.

 

did she parked down or up hill ?

 

Yes, whenever on a slope of any kind,
Apply parking brake first.
And release parking brake last.
While using regular brakes and shifting into or out of park.

Probably gear selector/ignition interlock switch. That was a problem on many Volvos, the plastic locking mechanism would get stuck in the steering column and wouldnt slide when the brake pedal was depressed. So the car wouldnt release from Park.
