07 Suburban Stabilitrak error - Replace motor???
We've owned an 07 Suburban for 6 years. About 3 years ago, we had the first incident with the stabilitrak error while on a road trip 1,000 miles from home and a random mechanic fixed it for $100, didn't think much of it. Two years ago, same problem while highway driving pulling our tiny camper. Spent $5-6k, was bounced from mechanic, to dealer, to a "specialist" in Suburban electrical issues who fixed "Harnos"? "Harness"? His handwriting is hard to read. A week ago, same error and 2 mechanics have told me that I need to change the motor, no compression in #4 and it will cost me $4-7k. I've read everything here I could find and made a list of what I wanted them to look at from the brake sensor, plugs, tire speed sensors, etc. and they say that it isn't any of that. Does the stabilitrak error come up for huge issues such as this? The same error for little sensor problems as for an enormous problem that makes the car undriveable? I'm about ready to junk the car (155k miles) but we are a family of 6 and use it to go camping so we need a large car. I'd love to get a newer (not new) one but I'm hesitant about getting another one and have the same problem.
StabilTrak off message will display when ever any powertrain code is set. It's a normal message usually along with ESC off message also. Will display also when check engine light comes on like when a cylinder is dead and a misfire is detected.
