Default 07 Tahoe Auto Dimming on NAV

Has anyone noticed that when the Nav unit is on Auto Dim that is always displaying in bright? I really like it when it's dimmed at night as it really softens the feel in the cabin. Any thoughts comments or solutions would be appreciated.

You can switch it from day to night or with the navigation disc in you can press and hold the steering wheel mute button for a second until you get a beep. Then say "Display, Night Mode" and it will darken. You can also do day mode.

Does this only work with a nav disc installed? And does it then also influence the audio screen light?
I don't have a nav disc, since nav doesn't work in Europe, but I am extremely annoyed about the bright blue screen at night. So far I have only found out to turn it off (and mute the system as a kinda "off").

yes, it only works with the nav disc installed. When you change to night mode it makes the nav screen go from bright yello/white background to black/yellow background. It also dims the intensity of the light from the nav unit. You can set how dim or light in the brightness and contrast settings.
