This problem is genneraly a common problem cause by moisture, rust, and dirt on the rotors, (but not in this case) but just to warn everyone if you do go to the local autoparts store the cheap break pads you can by there will also case that annoying squeak just a heads up

 

My 2007 Tahoe is screeching to high heaven and very embarrassing! It sounds like metal on metal. It starts off loud and gets worse when coming to the last seconds of braking. I've had three sets of brakes in three weeks, the rotors turned twice, a new drum on back brake and a new caliper. I'm desperate and now broke. Please help if someone figures this out. I agree that a $50000 truck should not be doing this.

 

Please find out exactly what kind of pads they are so you can help a lot of people stop their Tahoe brake misery.

sorry to hear about the brake troubles, a set of quality ceramic pads should eliminate the squeal...also it is best to have the rotors replaced rather then turned, when they are turned material is removed and reduces the amount of cooling capacity of the rotors leading to warping....

I just replaced the front pads and rotors on my 07. They had 75k on them. I used factory rotors and Hawk HPC pads. I highly recommend these pads. No issues whatsoever with squeaking/squealing. I also used caliper grease to lube up everything up.

Linda, did the shop or whomever worked on your brakes use caliper grease?? That could be why you are having such problems. Grease should be used on the caliper pins as well as on the back of the pads where the pads and calipers make contact.

 

So are you saying that the shop that did the work isn't standing behind it?

 

My truck does the same noise when rains or is really humid. The noise is really loud and it bothers me alot, 'cus in my case if its a rainy or humid day the noice doesn't go away not matter how many miles I drive!!
