07 Tahoe Windshield Repair
While traveling across town yesterday, a rock kicked up and hit the windshield of my 07 Tahoe. I do have a small crack. I live in Tempe Arizona so I do not have to deal with extreme temperature shifts but I am concerned with the repair. With some electronics in the rear view mirror assembly and with my Viper alarm sensor mounted on the windshield - I'm wondering where I should take the truck when it is time to have it repaired. I am sure many others get hit on at the car wash by the guys wanting to repair chips in a windshield and I am not sure I can trust those guys. I also realize that the dealer will cost more and will most likely contract the work out. Anyone else had to deal with this?
Many insurance companies cover windshield repair for free. Why not call them and ask, 1 if they will cover it, 2 if they can recommend someone. Also, if your insurance company pays for it, most likely it will be covered for the life of the vehicle as long as you own it.
Get your insurance co to handle it and the best thing is you can request a "tinted" windshield from the glass co. I also live in the Phx area and have had mine replaced. Never liked the original glass so it was a blessing it got broke by a rock also. The new tinted (at the top) is much nicer here in the heat.
By the way if you don't have glass coverage get it as it is cheap and much needed here in the Phoenix area. Glass repair/replacement is big business here.

The chip repairs are usually pretty good. Have had a couple and still looked OK when I got rid of the vehicles. But you said your's was cracked. Don't think the chip repair will work for cracks. But never hurts to check.
Might consider having your dealer replace the windshield if it comes to that because of the aforementioned attachments.

Same thing happened to me last month.I went to S*****e auto glass, they even put the inspection sticker back.I wanted to go with the windshiled repair for $75 but since it was right in my line of sight,I made a deal with him, first try to repair it , if it comes out well I'll pay the $75 otherwise we go for a new windshield. The repair came out OK, but the sun shining through the windshield coupled by the fact is was in my line of sight, made me dizzy. It cost $281 total for the new windshield.
Thanks everyone for your responses - you are why I love this forum.
Rescue30, am I right in thinking that you paid for your windshield replacement out of pocket instead of going through your insurance company? I used to work for S******e as a computer nerd- their service is top notch.
