08 suburban won't shift out of park.
I hit reverse and heard a ticking noise like an actuator, back in park, then reverse and OK to move with no sound. Parked at gas station and turned off. When I returned the shifter would not move. I forced it into what I though was a different position than park, and that's where it got weird. I turned the engine off but it wouldn't release my key or fully turn off. It was almost like it was in accessory mode. I rocked it back and forth and finally released the key. Try to start and acts like it's not in park and wouldn't even try to engage the starter. I unhooked the shift linkage and it wouldn't move manually. I had to hit it with a hammer to move it. Once in park from manual adjustment it started. Shift lever still wouldn't engage after hooking up linkage, so undid linkage again and hammered to reverse, n, d, 3...the truck revs but doesn't move. Is my tranny shot or is there any other tips and tricks that I might try before throwing in the towel?
