Default 1994 350 tbi timing problem

I got a 1994 Chevrolet K 2500 suburban 350 that I can't seem to time correctly the harmonic balancer shows its on zero or close to it but it runs bad. I unplugged the timing wire to adjust it but I can't get it. At idle my rpm goes from 820 to 710 and back. I had to replace distributor because my pickup coil was shot. Here was my steps

Pulled old dizzy
Put truck at tdc based on the harmonic ballencer
Dropped dizzy in,
Unplugged timing wire
Crunk truck and let it idle for 10 minutes to let it warm
Put timing light on it and adjusted it till it was at 0..
Shut off truck
Unplugged neg battery
Plugged battery in
Plugged connecter in
Started truck, idled not bad but not like it did before, rpms were all over the place. Went to drive it, had no ***** almost like it was starting in 3rd gear. Got in the pedal a little aboit 2500 rpm it sputtered and backfired. What am I doing wrong? All my wires are correct..I bought the truck as is, but it ran fine before I replaced dizzy. doesnt sound like it has a cam but engines heads has been off before.
Any tips? Ready to get my burb back on the road I might edit with more info im sure I forgot alot.

Edit: the speed I was going wasnt more then 10 mph when I tried to put the pedal down any further by the way

You need to verify that the harmonic balancer outer ring has not slipped with respect to the crankshaft. if it has slipped then you will have to replace it.

I got it running and driving.. it sputters only a little if not at all. But my timing is advanced 16 with the wire unplugged.. again based on the harmonic ballencer..is this normal?

Did you verify that the timing mark is correct when the crank is at TDC for #1 on the firing stroke?

Sorry 73 yes I did and it is from what I can see yes its 0 when #1 is at tdc.. also took it out for another ride and was giving it alot of gas and its still spuddering but not as bad as before. I backfired through the exhaust.

73shark seems to have the best handle on this one. From my end, it appears as though something (obviously) is not sync'd up. If #1 can be observed at TDC and the timing mark indicates 0 degrees, what is the timing light indicating?? I can only think of two things if both of these are correct, the distributor is off or somehow the timing chain skipped a cog.

I just saw your other post about not starting and misfiring. You said a new coil and distributor fixed this?? It may be a longer shot, but is the crankshaft position sensor working properly??

Canakin I replaced coil and it ran again but I went ahead and replaced the dizzy after. So I know its jus my timing. Gona pull the valve cover tmrw and put it back on tdc that way I know theres no mistaking it
