1995 Chevy Tahoe LT
I'm new to the site, and I looked in the first 4 pages before posting, so please don't jump me over using the search function
. I purchased the above vehicle (95 Tahoe LT) to replace a dying truck. Well, it was an even trade, so I paid all of $29 for it, I went into the purchase knowing there were a few things wrong with this truck (However, the engine isn't about to die, so I got the better end of the deal lol), anyway, onward to my issue: The four wheel drive. It doesn't engage. I know the transfer case works, because if I switch to 4-low, it gears the truck down. Now, the last owner tried to substitute some aluminum foil for a fuse and shorted a few things out. I'm going to replace the wiring ASAP, but my real question is this: the actuator for the four wheel drive, how hard is it to replace if that's the case? Or could it simply be a wiring issue?

My first question is if you switch into 4low it works right? Also is just the light not coming on or do the front tires now engage? My tahoe had a bad switch in the transfercase but the 4x4 worked fine just the light didn't come on.
First, thank you for your response, when I shift into 4 low, it'll gear the truck down, but the four wheel drive refuses to engage, I've got it narrowed down to the wiring at this point, I finally broke down and took it to the local dealer, and they're saying it's the wiring. Which I'm inclined to believe, because someone decided to substitute some aluminum foil for a fuse.
