Default 1995 Tahoe Slamming into Gear

Folks, I have a 1995 Tahoe 4D 4WD with almost 300K on the clock, and the old beast still doesn't burn a drop of oil and runs and drives like a new car. Almost. Recently it just started doing something weird - When I shift from Park or Neutral into Drive, there's a delay of several seconds where it actually seems like the engine RPM's speed up a bit, then it slams into gear with bone jarring force. Same with shifting into reverse, but less forceful. Just did throttle body gasket, RPM's at idle are nice and steady at about 700, just purring. Once it is in Drive, it shifts through the gears smoothly with no problems whatsoever. Tried a fluid flush & some of that Lucas stuff, no change. Any ideas as to what's going on would be very much appreciated. Thanks in advance -

might have to take to a trans shop. make sure the trans fluid is where is needs to be. check the u-joints. The trans just might had enough and need a rebuild.
