1995 Tahoe tranny issue
I was recently given a 95 Tahoe 2dr 4x4 auto trans from my neighbor with a supposed tranny issue. I was told it was stuck in first gear. It had no previous issues with tranny whatsoever until this, which happened right up the road from his house. It sat for about 6 months until I started it up and pulled it across the street to my house. The next day I took it for a drive to see for myself and to my suprise it shifted flawlessly through all the gears. Any ideas what could cause this? I have a family and want to make sure it is safe. It has high miles @ 180k but is in great shape and was well taken care of. I am new to this forum thing so if i missed any details please let me know. Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks and im not sure exactly how this works so just in case my email is esjac619@hotmail.com

Welcome to the forum both of you
Given that the vehicle(s) have high mileage and may be in a state of unknown condition, the easiest things to do is, check the fluid level, fluid color and consider changing the fluid and filter out, while the pan is off check for debris in the pan and go from there....

at 165K I dropped a new crate engine in my 96 Tahoe, while having it pulled down, I also had the tranny dropped into the shop for a a whine noise in the front pump. When the shop pulled the tranny down they found the 1-2 and 2-3 drum planetary gears were just about shredded. Lots of minute debris in the valve body, it was a wonder it was still even shifting. Sounds like you may have some crap in the tranny suffering from sitckey spool valves. It will run about 1200-1500 to have it gone through, but if you plan on running this truck it will be a worth wile investment. Good luck.
