1998 Suburban Tuneup Woes
Hello, new to this forum. Great to see all the help being provided. I installed new ignition wires, Autolite double platinum plugs, a new distributor cap and rotor button in my 1998 K1500 with 185k miles two weeks ago. Although it was my first time doing this, and it took a while, it went well with the help of an excellent YouTube video showing the whole job being done on a 1999 Suburban. The engine ran great until 2 days ago when it began running rough and check engine light came on. The plug wires I bought (I bought the cheapest set---a mistake) were each approximately 1/2" shorter than the original wires. So, I immediately thought one of the wires may have become loose. I pushed the wire tight on the number 3 receptacle on the distributor and heard a click, so I thought my problem was solved, but truck continued to run very rough an Scan showed misfire in the #4 cylinder, I pulled the #4 plug and it was fouled, so again I thought my problem was solved, but no luck. All other plugs were nice and clean. I pulled the distributor cap and the rotor button did not seem to be in the same position as when I installed it. At installation, I was careful to mark the location and install the rotor button in the same position as instructed in the video (pointing toward the left at #1).
So, needing to get the truck running right, any suggestions on where to turn next would be most appreciated. Thanks for any help you can provide.

These engines dont like cheap ignition parts was that click or cracking plastic?the rotor rotates inside the cap the engine just stopped at a different positon thats why the rotor was pointing at a different spot if thats what you ment,i had problems with a aftermarket cap and rotor when it would rain i went with all AC/DELCO ignition parts and have had no problems yet, if you cant find it locally summit racing or amazon sells it just did a quick check you can get everything on amazon for about $82 plus shipping except plugs
