1999 Tahoe 5.3 Vortec engine knock
Hello guys, this is my second time coming to this site for advice. I suppose I have been lucky so far? My Tahoe 4X4 has 87,000 miles on it. I have started to notice a knocking or tick that is only heard after the engine is warmed up and during acceleration. Is this an indication of a worn connecting rod bearing? Is there anything else I should be doing to help pinpoint the source of the ticking or knocking? Thank you,

I appreciate your input oilcanhenry.
Thank you,
Just go google to get lots of videos, to find out henry is almost certainly correct! Lifter tick, which I've already had confirmed in my 2012 Chevy Tahoe. I should say was just some lifter tick before the wife was practicing her Mario Andretti and caused lifer collapse. I had definitely heard the unusual engine noises a couple times ahead of it but just didn't know about engines, and the noises they make to realize it. Now I'm here to get help on replacing my lifters and as much as rebuilding the engine that entails.

Hello Matthew, thanks for responding. Currently the only issue that can be found right now is an exhaust gasket leak at the large flange on the right side between the catalytic converters and the muffler. One of the three bolts has broke off. The bolt that snapped is the far right one close to the frame. I have this scheduled to repaired next week. If this is my issue, it is amazing how an exhaust leak on the right side can sound like it is coming from the engine compartment while driving. Good luck with your project. I will come back on here and post an update.
That leaking flange was the issue. The repair required the removal of one catalytic converter and cutting the other pipe. The flange is no longer being used. On this two door Tahoe the flange was welded very close to the converter, the bolt studs were welded in the flange very close to the converter too. The exhaust shop attempted to remove the studs first without damaging the OEM converter. Their attempt failed. I then agreed to remove it and go with a new one and sleeve both pipes to eliminate the flange altogether. All the pipe joints have been welded. All in the repair cost was $460. No more knock or tic noise. Also, I misstated the engine size. It is a 5.7, my bad, getting old sucks.
I appreciate the comments when I started this thread. Thank you all,
