2000 Tahoe power door locks
I recently had to install a new actuator on the right rear door. About 3 days later the right front door actuator began to act up, and the door is stuck in the locked position. I can manually move the lock to the unlock, but the door will not open. I have tried to disengage the lock by working a coat hanger into the latch mechanism with the back door open but have not had any success. Anyone know how I can get my door open so I can remove the panel and repair????:confused2:

Welcome to the forum. I know that police and some security guys carry slim jim kits. Also probably a locksmith might have one.

In your case it sounds as if the door lock actuator/latch has broken (but you already knew that) you will either have to carefully remove the screws and pry the trim panel off, sometimes you can get it off without busting it, if not then you will have to destry the door panel to get to the latch.

The problem is that you cannot get to the screw on the bottom of the panel, and if you could the panel probably could not be pulled off with the door closed. Would a slim jim be able to catch the latch? I tried teasing the latch open from between the front and rear door, but have not had success as of yet. I sure would hate to have to rip the panel off.

A slim-jim would be the only option, these doors can be tricky to open but it usually can be done with persistance provided that the control rod is still attached to the latch.

unlock the door, lift the handle and use your finger to lift the latch/lock mechanism up (the part that goes over the lock post), look at the other door to compare...
