Default 2001 Tahoe fuel prob/annoyance

Well its not so much a problem yet but just aggravation sitting there having to crank it 2-3 times to get it to start. It isnt all the time but I'd say a good 50% and I have yet to see a common cause. I know the problem is fuel pressure bleedoff because I went to install a new filter the other day. Drove it into the shop and not even two minutes later there 0 psi on the line. I rented a pressure tester yesterday and found out when I first turn the key to ON (this is on a warm motor) it jumps up to 55 psi and falls off immediately and is at 0psi within a few seconds. When running the pressure sits at 50psi at idle. Does this sound normal? Once I cut it off the pressure immediately falls back off to 0 within maybe 10-15 seconds. Leaking down that fast leads me to believe the pump is letting it bleed back through. Is there a way to test this or any input you could give me before I start throwing parts at it. Although I've narrowed it down to the regulator ($50) or pump assembly ($280) Thanks!

Welcome to the forum.

Have you tried starting after the key has been on for a few seconds to allow pressure to build up?

Well after pinching off the return line and still losing pressure I decided it HAD to be the fuel pump so I went ahead and dropped the tank sunday at noon and had it back in and running like a champ by 3 in the midst of getting sidetracked with my gf and dog lol Usually things arent that easy but this time I was very reluctant after a little research and some common sense/diagnosis.
