Default 2001 Tahoe lights work sporatically

My 2001 tahoe headlights work for a few hours then stop. All fuses and bulbs are good. I removed the dash switch, the lights work even without the switch attached. The lights react the same, by morning they turn on then after a few hours of use same repitition. <!-- / message --><!-- BEGIN TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --><!-- END TEMPLATE: ad_showthread_firstpost_sig --><!-- edit note -->

same problem with my 99 Chevy 1500. They work for a few hours and then turn off OR don't come on at night when I start the truck. Checked relay, fuses, ambient sensor, relays and switch. All other lights work fine... just no low or high beam headlights.
