Hello everyone. I have a fairly simple question, yet, I have not been able to find the answer. My 2002 Burb has the dreaded anti-drain back fuel pump issue. It will start and run fine - as long as you turn the key on a couple of times before you crank it, so it will build fuel pressure. It has been this way a few years, but my wife has worn out a starter now since she does not have the patience to wait to get fuel pressure. Anyway, here is my question. Does anyone know which pump this actually uses in the basket in the tank? I know the MU1379 is the entire basket that you can get for $200+, but I would really like to know which pump is in this basket, so I can just try to buy it. I have found the part for the non-flex fuel unit, but nobody seems to know which one it is for the flex version. I would just buy the non-flex pump, since we never can find e85 anyway, but I am afraid it will have a different connector, or a different placement in the basket and not work. Any ideas? Thanks!

You could try a parts recycling yard

(Before the age of PC, we used to

call them "junkyards".) Anyway, the

recyclers have mad interchange manuals.

Sometimes you can compare popular parts

at a parts store, to the OEM part, if you

have it in hand.

 

I'd head to your local auto parts store and ask to see both fuel pumps, take them out of the box and inspect them, as long as you don't destroy the box.I'd be willing to bet the parts guy will let you examine to two side by side...

It would be my guess the pump motor is the same, its just other parts of the pump assembly are different to tolerate the alcohol in E fuels...but that is just a guess on my part...

 

I had the same problem as you are having with my fuel pump. I added a check valve in the fuel line near the tank and my problems were solved. Started first try every time. Did not have to dropping the tank.
