I've found checking the underside of the crankcase fill cap to be a good way to check for water in the oil. It presents as a gray jelly-like substance.

A coolant system pressure test could also tell you if there is a leak...

Yes the presure is going somewhere I found the block tester and found out the head gasket is bad. But theres no oil in the crank case. So called a dealer and asked them if the bad head gasket will there be water in oil. So found out that there is a way for the head gasket to be bad and the water will never go into the crank case. It would acaully go out though the exhaust and never get into the crank. Hope this help out for anyone that needs some help with there 5.3lt. This is from a master tech mechanic in a local dealer in Florida that I used to work with when I was in Florida.

I have a 2002 Tahoe 4.8 with non castech heads and i have a cracked head? Can you reuse the head bolts if I buy new heads? Or are they a one time use?

Welcome to the forum.

It's not recommended to reuse them especially the newer ones that are torque to strain which I believe requires a special wrench. One of techs here can point you in the right direction.

Welcome to the forum. You might check the freeze plugs. It also might be the water pump seal.

I have a 1994 Z-71 4x4 pickup. The check engine light will come on after I drive it for about 6 - 7 miles, but always goes off when I turn engine off. Will not be on when I start truck again, but once again after about 6 - 7 miles, comes on. Any ideas?
