Its been more then a month since I used JB weld to fix the rear window hinge, its holding. Now I hope it keeps on holding.

Add me to the list. I have a 2005 Suburban with about 55k Miles. I noticed the probelm after towing a 5500 lb boat about 100 miles. I didn't think that had anything to do with it until I read this thread. I brought it to the dealer. They INITIALLY said my CNA Extended Warranty covered it but that they had to order some new "Adhesive Kit". I picked up the vehice and brought it back a week later. I got a concerned call in the afternoon. They had replaced the whole assembly and supposedly been told by CNA to pound sand! After a long protracted discussion they ate the labor and charged me $550 for the Part. They said the "Adhesive Kit" just didn't exist. Of course the original Customer Service agent was AWOL. I'm not done with this yet!

 

Another one to add to the list - 2000 Tahoe w/90,000 miles. About a year and a haf ago, one of the hinges broke. Found a glass company who would repair the hinge for $125 but would told us it would not last forever. Last week, the entire window fell off, luckily it didn't hit anyone.
After numerous phone calls to glass companies, they said this is an ongoing problem with Chevrolet SUV's and difficult to get a replacement at a salvage company because of the reoccuring problem.
I did find a glass company who would repair for $440, stating they use "aftermarket" products to replace the entire unit. After calling 4 companies, they all said they could replace and quoted a rate much cheaper than the dealer, ranging from $798 to $440. Taking it for repair tomorrow.

 

are they ******* kidding me, i made an appointment to take my suburban for some maintenance.
ask if they could give me an estimate on how much it was to fix my lift gate glass a whopping $1089.
my suburban is not even worth that much, lol. i can't even get rid of this POS cause of the lift gate.
anybody have pics of their fixes, i want try and fix it myself.

I actually like the rear doors on my 95 tahoe the best, I Dont know why they went to the new huge door that swings up, I liked the old split horizontal style, so there was a top and bottom that you could sit on when getting ice cream / loading crap / etc.

the new tahoe / burban and my girl's ford escape all open in the back the same way... for the life of me I can not understand the point of the top part opening... we have had her car for overa year, and never opened the top part...

o well...

Same issue here - right hinge on 2003 Tahoe, so I called the 800 # posted here (800-222-1020) and reported the issue. The customer service rep said she was very positive that it could be issued as a service notice soon as there are "quite a lot of complaints about this issue." We will receive a letter if it is. For those of you who already paid to fix it, you can receive a reimbursement. As for me, I will try rxlrider's DIY method. Thanks!

The point seems to have been lost here. I doubt the original poster spends all his free time trying to get something for nothing. And his most verbal critic zx1100f1 (ninjaboy) cant seem to get past verbal attack mode long enough to get a grip on his ankle biting tendencies. The point here is that it would be nice, especially when paying for a premium product, if the people who built it would say "sorry, I f~cked up" and take responsibility. As far as warranty periods go, I think it is safe to say that people expect things like hatches to stay attached the vehicle for the life of the vehicle no matter when the warranty expires. I do not believe Chevy intended to build a truck with body panels that fall off, but that's what happened. Ford had a similar problem with Explorer hatches, they were recalled. Dont start, I own a 2003 Suburban. The hatch is perpetually on national back order because its a poor design that WILL fail. Anyone who buys Tahoe/Suburbans at auction who knows what they are doing checks the hatch first.
By the way zx1100f1, I know you will be firing back, so here is your target. I'm an ASE master tech with L1 cert. 25 years exp, and yes, some at GM dealer. My guess (after reading some of your posts) is you've been turning wrenches just long enough to have gotten your first NICE box. Nothin personal Scooter, just lighten up. Maybe someday when you grow up you will learn to be big enough to admit when you f~ck up.

 

By the way, to everyone who is having this problem, call Safelight. they are about half the dealer price for the hatch.
