Hello just a quick question to see if this is an easy fix. I have a 2003 Tahoe and when I start the vehicle and go to put it in drive I have to go to the 3 position then to the d position for the tranny to engage. If I go directly to Drive it does nothing. Any help is greatly appreciated

 

It sounds like the linkage needs adjustment. If you go to 3 then you are going the next position past D compensating for the misadjustment. All other gear selections ok?

 

Yea everything else seems normal. It shifts fine it's just when you initially go to a forward gear.

 

It doesn't feel like a traditional linkage setup on this it feels as though it's an electronic shift. I was thinking maybe it's in the pr neutral safety switch???

 

If you put it in neutral and try to start it, does the starter engage or is it locked out because of the safety switch?
