It was a bad Mass Air Flow sensor. After looking into how much work it would've been to replace the intake gasket, I decided I wanted to make sure it wasn't the MAF sensor before going through all that. I bought a used MAF sensor at a junkyard for 40 bucks, popped it in, the check engine light went off immediately. I checked the codes a few days later and the P0101 is gone. Truck runs great now and passed emissions. I have an unrelated 4WD problem I will discuss in another thread.......

My Tahoe had all the symptoms that you mentioned and it WAS the intake gasket in my case. At one point I thought it was my MAF and gave it a good cleaning and the SES went away temporarily but came right back. With the new TSB bulletin out describing all the symptoms that I had had, it was the logical choice to replace the gaskets with the new Teal Green Gaskets that are better than the current orange ones (mine orange ones were completly gone), if the symptoms return its more than likely the gaskets.

So far so good on the MAF sensor. No more codes. 40 bucks for a used unit and it fixed the proble immediately. Takes 5 minutes to swap it out. Worth trying.
