Default 2004 tahoe z71 needs help

About a week ago I noticed my clock started resetting every once in awhile to 12:00 like the battery was unplugged. So yesterday I drove my car up & back to the store, parked it at home. I then came out 20 minutes later to start it & the battery was dead.

I put a new battery in last night & it drove for maybe 2 minutes before completely cutting out it didn't sputter it just gave out like i wasn't supplying any gas to it. i put it in park & as soon as i tried to put it in gear it would shut off. basically had to start it in neutral and gas it then switch it to drive in order to park it.

any ideas what this could be? i'm thinking more than likely i need a new alternator but wanted to see if anyone else had something similar before i start dumping more $$$ for nothing.

any help would be greatly appreciated.

test the alternator before you get a new one. if you dont have a auto parts store to test it, use a volt meter and test it yourself, just to check and make sure that is the problem.

Welcome to the forum.

Unless the new battery is dead, not sure why one would think it was the alternator. Sounds more like a fuel pump problem to me. Need to check the pressure.
