2005 Tahoe - question about weird cubby in the dash

2005 Tahoe - question about weird cubby in the dash
I have a 2005 Chevy Tahoe and have never understood what to do with that little 3"x3" cubby under the center A/C vent (just to the right of the A/C controls). What is that supposed to be used for? It's too narrow to fit my wallet or much anything else. Is this where an ash tray can go?
My old 1999 Tahoe had a nifty pull-out cupholder in a similar space (just under the A/C vent in the center of the dash). Is there a similar add-on I can get to fit into this little 3x3 cubby of my new truck?
