Default 2007 Chevy Tahoe Rear Hatch Leak

I have seen several posts about this but they all seem to be for older tahoe's. I have a 2007 tahoe with the electronic (push-button) rear hatch. I have noticed in recent rains that the rear hatch is leaking badly. Before I go out and buy new weather stripping, has anyone ran into this? The latch mechanism seems to be working fine, i.e. door is fully latching when closed. Any thoughts? Thanks in advance!

I just made this discovery a couple of weeks ago, I have not had a chance to investigate deeper... it wasn't wet when I found it so I don't know when it happened... Don't know if its a leak or an inadvertently hosing down when the hatch was not completely closed...

Well, I jumped at it and pulled the rear headliner trim and sure enough you can see where dirt and debris had built up around one of the fasteners...
Could even see a ring of dirt around the fastener holes
looking above that and its where the wire harness and boot for the CHMSL goes and it was a bit loose and filthy

the weatherstrip that is mounted there is not removal-able, its glued down so I had to vacuum and wipe it down until clean...
I also used some polish to clean it up and make it more water repellent...
Once done I liberally applied silicone paste to the boot mount and around the mount hole to help seal out water penetration...

It looks like debris built up at that just right spot in addition to the boot not being fully seated (probably me knocking it loose while cleaning around the hatch area)...

I believe I have the leak resolved, now to address that freakin' water stain...

Sorry it took so long to get back to this forum. I actually found the leak over the weekend before even reading this post and guess what...you hit the nail on the head. That is the exact same place mine is leaking. The boot does not fully snap in at the top and has a good size gap big enough for more than just water to get through. I will be getting some automotive silicone soon and repairing this weekend. Thanks for the feedback!!
