Question 07 Suburban LTZ - Dead Battery issue

I'm having the same problem as we speak. My battery goes dead if you leave anything on for just a few minutes without the engine running. Seems kind of rediculous for such a big truck to go dead so fast.

I also wondered why there's an empty "battery tray" in the engine compartment. Seems like if they built it in there...they should of put something in the empty tray.

Welcome to the forum. Have the dealer verify that the charging system upgrade has been done.

I believe the tray is a left over that was a convenient structural support, thou I wouldn't speak too loudly about it as GM my get wise and remove it as it is a convenient place of a secondary battery or small tool box storage location.

I haven't see a Hybrid but remember someone stating that the tray was for the battery in the Hybrid. I think they placed a controller where our battery is.

Maybe someone w/ a Hybrid can chime in.

I have a 09 LTZ so may not be related.

I dont drive my truck often. I usually leave the truck unloicked. Well I also have blue tooth enabled. I noticed my phone was always trying to connect in my house. (No key in truck- Just unlocked) after one week. Batt was dead.

I now lock my doors and has not been a problem. Seems to put the truck in more of a sleep mode(less batt drain)

Default radio

i always listen to the radio when I wash my car... until I get an optima yellow for this one (had a red top in last tahoe) i push 'menu' then display off... that seems to save a lot of power and its not like i'm looking at it anyway...

I used a D34/78 Yellow Top in the auxilliary tray. There's no reason to believe that it wouldn't fit in the primary location. Optima does not (or did not) reference the 2007+ Tahoes or Suburbans in the application guide, but they seem to work fine. You will have to remove the gusset plate in order to get the batteries in and out. Just 4 bolts, and it's off.

Yes, the OEM battery is a POS. Mine has died twice, and almost a third, but still lives after 60,000 miles.
