I've had mine tuned on with HP Tuner software and one thing that wasn't changed was that speed limiter. Twd tahoes have a long drive shaft, hate to see that thing get loose at that kind of speed, not to mention the OE brakes on this thing aren't the greatest.
And 100 in a Tahoe IS fast, in an F16, not so...

There are 2 main items involved with limiting an SUV's speed ability. The primary one is as many know, the tire speed rating, moving that much rubber at high RPM's the tire could literally disintegrate, the centrifugal force exerted out to the threads is crushing, the secondary is the sheer amount of air being forced under the vehicle, at higher speeds more air is crammed under the frame and body, that air in high enough volume can and will make an high off the ground vehicle perform just a like a wing... yes your SUV will want to start to take off and in the process you lose the ability to control the steering, the whole vehicle effectively is hydroplaning if you will, on the large volume of air being pushed under it....
Most SUV and truck tires have a speed rating of 112mph, that is the max sustainable, GM as well as other manufacturing engineers, built in an additional buffer to account for basic dumb-assery of poor choices by some drivers
If you have all terrain tires or off road type tires you speed rating for the tires in maxed at 75mph.... keep that in mind when you see bubba rollin' coal passing you at 90mph while you hear the 36 inch tall mud grip tires he has on are screaming...

Arguing with these folks about driving top end in a non-aero 5,000 lb. truck is like mud wrestling a pig. You get all dirty and then you realize the pig enjoys it.
I put it in the same box as arguing with those that insist on putting HIDs in their fog lites and then running them on during the day because it looks cool.

I admit, I have had my Tahoe up to the shutdown point a time of two, it is exhilarating, and a little unnerving when it first happens, but we are talking 2, 3 maybe 4 times at the most in the 9 years I've owned her, but I ain't spending a nickel to disable it as there is just no practical reason I could think of to spend money on it...
If someone gets it as part of a tune, sure more power to them. And of those 2 or 3 times, they were on clear open road and it was done for fun(there may have been some friendly racing going on) not for any reason of need... boy those white lines sure seem like little dashes at that speed... hard to believe they are 10+ feet long!

I've only had to operate my ride once at it's max, that being about 97 mph for a medical emergency, and that will probably not ever happen again.
I understand the reason of limitations on tire, RPM, and the dangers of aerodynamics at higher speeds, and I view that limitation as I do the "Reduced Engine Power" message most of us have encountered. I don't like it, and I think that GM is overstepping by forcing that level of control.
I might agree with it to some point during the warranty period, but, past that, its MY RIDE, not theirs.
