I have a 2007 Suburban. About a month ago I noticed a small crack which quickly became a large crack.
I did as suggested on the this board and sent the complaint to Chevy. I was contacted quickly the next day by a Chevrolet agent, and told I would be contacted by a district specialist. Same drill, he wanted me to see a dealer, and have it evaluated. They also informed me that there was a recall on the windshield washer heater.
Took it to my dealer and also asked if they could fix the rear window defroster clip that had broken off the back glass and swings around hanging by the cord. Seven hours later I got the results, couldn't fix the defroster on the rear glass, replacement is the only fix, the glass alone is $565. The recall was the removal of the windshield washer heater, not a fix, and Chevrolet will be sending a check for $100. The cracked dash would be covered 50% by chevy at a cost to me of $318.
Basically disappointed 3 times, but told them I'd kick it around, the dash bothers me as the vehicle has always been garage kept. Will either fix it or sell it. GM guy and love the car overall, but have the same problems as many here: hole in the pleather where you rest your right elbow, power source covers broke almost immediately. Fair offer overall as it is out of warranty, and I don't expect Chevy to fix everything forever, but then again, others have had theirs fixed for free. District rep Brandon was pleasant to deal with, however I did not push for a better offer either.

I bought a 2007 Tahoe about a year ago (certified pre-owned). I noticed a crack in the dash around the airbag a few months ago. I also have a 97 Chevy blazer that I purchased in 2000 and the dash is solid. A vehicle produced 10 years later with a pretty substantial price tag should not have substandard parts. Anyway, we took the Tahoe to our Chevy dealer. We were told that it was not covered by our CPO warranty but they decided to replace it free of charge. It does appear that it is up to the dealer to decide if they want to replace it at o cost to the customer or charge a fee.
I see that a number of you have problems with the pealing door handles as well. I had the same problem and cut my fingers on them a couple times. I received the letter in the mail about getting them replaced but there are conditions. The vehicle year must fall within the ten year period from the original purchase date (we are not the original owners) or 100k miles or less whichever comes first of course. The dealership replaced all 4 interior handles. Hopefully they last longer then the original handles. I personally think they should be recalled (those things can potentially become razor sharp).

I finally had mine done last week, more than two months after initiating the process by sending Louis my Suburban’s VIN and my contact information. As I posted earlier, my District Specialist, while cordial throughout our dealings, offered me a “take-it-or-leave-it, best-I-can-do” $500 deductible. The assistance of my dealer and an intercession by GM Corporate got it knocked down to a more reasonable $250, plus they gave me a $100 loss-of-feature rebate for removing the windshield washer fluid heater under recall. So…net cost for the new dash, $150. Not bad for a truck purchased used, non-CPO, that hit 100,000 last Monday. GM once again has a satisfied customer.

The main lesson I learned from this is that your dealer’s service manager is your new best friend. As in2pro told me awhile back, while you’re in having the freebie work done it doesn’t hurt to spend a few dollars on an oil change or tire rotation, and to give ‘em a positive rating if they’re good. That said, here’s a five-star recommendation for Victory Chevrolet-Cadillac in Petaluma (Sonoma County), California and Service Manager Robert Anderson, along with Service Advisors Dennis Pawlowski and Patrick Mulligan. And a thank you to the oft-maligned Louis, GM Customer Service, who takes more than his share of crap while trying to keep us all happy.

Newbie here who shares the same cracked dash issue as the rest. I contacted GM about it as suggested. Scheduled an inspection with local dealer who offered to split 50%. I am not very pleased with the outcome and I do not blame the dealer, I really think GM needs to step up on this one. My truck sees a lot of highway with 127K on the odometer, but the dash is not a usual wear and tear item. The dash should be produced to last 10-15 years.
Ultimately this truck has really let me down. It's a 2007 Silverado LTZ CCSB. To go along with the cracked dash, my pan gasket leaks like crazy, the engine front main seal leaks, the body panels don't line up correctly especially the hood. I have replaced ball joints, front and rear axle seals, and the list goes on and on. Some of those items are to be expected with time and miles, but my 2005 was in pristine condition and all original with 150K when I got rid of it. I expected more from the new model.
Big let down by Chevy!

I am sorry to hear that the end result of your interactions with us, the 50/50 split, was not fully satisfactory for you. I apologize - I do not quite know the context of your situation - had we set the case up for you here? If not, if you would like to send us your case number, we could look over what has been done.
