His radio show went off the air. The station changed formats and is now 100% sports radio. He still does his TV show on News Channel 8 Saturdays at 9:30 and of course Motorweek

GM side post have a very common problem, the two wires come together in the red rubber cover at the cable end. Most people take them off and clean them and reinstall with the same results. Cut the cover off and separate the two and clean out all the white corrosion powder you will find. Use bakeing soda and water. Then get a longer side post bolt from your local auto parts store. Put a crown washer between the two cables and one between the cables and the battery mating surface. Keep in mind the cable powering all the lights and accessories will provide the power no problem. The starter draws a lot more amps and that will not carry the full amps needed thru the corroded cables. 99% of people and way to many techs do not see the corrosion between the cables as it is hidden by the un-needed red cover. If someone needs a red cover to find the positive terminal they should not be under the hood for their own safety. Keep the old battery, it may have age on it however it may come in handy as I suspect it is not dead.
My '07 uses the top posts. My '01 had side posts and I never had an issue. Remember that a Batteries life starts when the acid is introduced so many factory batteries have already been on a shelf for a while and then sat on a lot so a battery in a new car is already 1-2+ years old. So a factory battery in an '08 is at least 5 years old now. I replaced the Battery in my '07 in 2010 and have not had an issue since.

Thanks for the response Needmotools55. My battery is a top post battery. I haven't replaced it yet. I will check to see if there is any corrision regardless before I go out and by a new battery. Thank you for the idea.

GARY476,

It looks like you've already got a direction on how to address the battery difficulty you've encountered. If there is anything you would like for us to check into for you, please send us a private message or email with more details (including your name, contact information, and the last 8 digits of your VIN).

Doesn't your electrical (REP) shut down after ten minutes?

Or everything shuts down when the battery condition is determined to be too low and still retain enuf energy to start the engine. The DIC will say "Battery Low, Restart Engine" or something to that effect.
