Pretty obvious the problem is from the rust and I can imagine GM’s lawyers aren’t too keen to allow a partial fix. I’d recommend cutting way as much of the rusted metal as possible and weld in the plate material described earlier. Paint everything with a good rust paint.
Good luck. I’m off to check mine.

The sway bar is bolted to a piece that stick out from the frame thats welded on. I am not sure why this has happened. The drivers side of my car is fine and the passanger side is destroyed. I am wondering how the rust happened. Maybe it has to do with the type of metal uses for the bolt that holds it in place?

Well I finally heard back from my contact. Unfortunately his suggestion is installing the GM part, which is that whole frame assembly. $800. No thanks. I'm going to see if a local welder will repair it.

When you get it done is there any chance you could post some pictures of the repair? I am also bringing my truck to a frame repair shop to have a part welded

Yes I'll post pics. The local welder/fabricator wants $350 to do it. Says he needs to make some sort of L or angle bracket. He hadn't seen that happen before, and was surprised because the rest of the frame is so solid. I'm having it done next week.

My 2008 Suburban had the same problem on the passenger side.

A mechanic had to weld a new support to the frame. He made the support out of stock metal.

$320.00 in parts and labor.

Thanks for the pic curt. How old is that repair? Do you feel like the repair has worked out?

The work is less than a week old. It feels and drives solid. I'm "sort of" confident in the repair. I wish the shop would have taken more of the old support off. It looks like he welded
onto the curved part of the old support and frame. So far so good. He replaces everything left and right except the sway bar.

I called Chevy and opened a case before the shop repaired it. Since it was such a weird problem I thought they would help me out. Nothing yet.

When mine was new, I spray painted everything on the under side with Ace Rust Stop Gloss Black. $10 ( 2 cans)... hopefully this holds on mine until April when it's goodbye tahoe
I love how GM skipping $5.00 in paint lets them sell you a $800 part. I think that's so cool.

well I have been driving my truck around for a month with the sway bar detached. so the bar has been knocking against the plate and has prety much destroyed what is left. I also called gm and they told me to bring the truck to the dealer at my cost and I am sure they would just tell me its rusted and not covered. I am thinking about just getting it fixed and then trading it for a new f150 the Gm frames just seem to love to rust. Even new trucks on the lot has some decent rust/peeling
