Default 2008 Suburban cruise control not working

I just bought a 2008 Suburban LTZ and the cruise control is not working. The light turns on but it doesn't engage. I have looked through the forum and tried to troubleshoot. I checked the parking brake, the battery was bad and I have replaced that still nothing. No check lights either. Does anyone know where I can check next?

Welcome to the forum.

Is it out of warranty? Check powertrain warranty, it may cover there.

Check fuse.

I believe the cruise control is controlled by the BCM

That might take it out of the powertrain then.

I have checked the fuze. I also have been looking and don't believe it is covered under the powertrain warranty, so I guess I will be making a trip to the dealer.

New updated on the cruise control issue. I got it back from the dealer and they said it was a bad brake switch located on the brake pedal. I guess I have to decide if it is worth 200 dollars to have cruise control right now.

$200 for a simple switch? You've got to be kidding. Check w/ their parts dept. Get the P/N and then check gmpartsdirect.

I saw on another forum that people were getting the switch for $15.00 and it only takes 10 minutes to install. I am having the same problem with my 2007 Suburban. I sure didn't realize how much I liked CC until I didn't have it in our suburban. Did anybody fix this problem yet by getting a new brake switch? If so, how much did it cost you?

Default part

is this the part?

Chevy Suburban & Tahoe Brake Light Switch 2007-2011 OEM | eBay

Just look under your dash and see if it has one, if it does, see if you can remove it.

if you do replace it, take some photos, and write up what all you did

Actually, i just remembered I have the Tahoe FSM on DVD at home... i will look this up tonight if I get a chance (not too likely as I have a boat to fix, with parts arriving tonight, sorry)...

I haven't had a good reason to use it yet, but if I get a chance to poke around, I will see what i can do..

Thank you for the information. I hear you about working on your boat...It seems like there is always something to do whenever you own a boat. My dad says the 2 best days of owning a boat are the day you get it and the day you get rid of it. I disagree but I thought it was funny.

I do not know if that is the right part or not, but I will try to remember tonight to look and see. The other forum they mentioned that you need to remove a small spring to install the break pedal switch. I am also going to take it out for a drive and see if the CC works if I pull up on the brake pedal because I have not tried this yet.
