Default 2009 suburban oil issue

I own a 2009 Suburban LTZ 82,000 miles and I have a major oil consumption problem. my last oil change 5000 miles intervals I only had 1 Q in the engine. Went to dealer and they told me that it is within guidelines that you can lose 2 Q between changes. This is our 4th Suburban and 3 new one we have purchased. Although it is still under the power train I am very disappointed in the performance of this truck. Dash is cracked inside handle peeling and rear locks don't work. right side power mirror wont retract anymore. Now OIL issue. We love the size and have always enjoyed driving the suburban's. But now it has turned me into a shopper for our next new SUV. If I am going to spend another 65,000 I will research performance and maintenance issues. 2015 suburban's hitting the lots soon decisions decisions....... any advice for me anyone???

Considering it's 4+ years old with 82k miles.....it's not uncommon for it to use 2QT's per 5000 miles.

What oil are you using? Synthetic Blend? Full Synthentic?

From my families experience, synthetic oils being utilized from break-in period on for new vehicles GREATLY has reduced oil-ring seal issues that potentially develop from inferior (yes, all dino oils are inferior) oils over 100k+ miles.

I have a hand me down 1997 BMW 740iL with the 4.4 V8. It has 200k+ miles and barely uses any oil. That said, it has been on a synthetic diet its ENTIRE life....while several other vehicles I've own that haven't ended up using more oil then others.

If it were me.....just rock the thing until you decide on another truck to replace it in the future. Perhaps stick some Lucas oil treatment into the next oil change with some Mobil 1 15w-40 (great oil for consumption issues).

Do you mean it ONLY had 1 qt in the engine total? Or it was 1 quart low?

If it ONLY had 1 quart in the engine....that is a serious issue..#1

#2, you should NEVER drive an engine in that state. It could seriously destroy it!

Yes 1 Q total and it and the only reason I knew it was the oil pressure light and gage went nuts. I immediate took it to the shop.
