OK, we recently got a 2011 GMC Yukon. I believe that the oil life system is set to come on every 3000 miles (this was the default on our 2005 Yukon), so is more for conventional oils than semi-synthetic or full synthetic oils which have longer oil change intervals; maybe a profitable way to get folks to take it to the dealer more often.

So is there a way to change this mile amount in the SUV's computer to some other value, or is one just stuck resetting it every 3000 miles and keeping track the old fashioned way? Thanks.

 

I believe it is on some kind of computer algorithm that monitors how you drive. Our 05 Sub definately went over 3k per change and my bride always relied on the notification to change oil.

 

My '11 Tahoe OLM is anywhere from 6500 to 7500 miles depending on the time of year. Winter is less miles than summer. This is my observation over 100k miles now.
