Default 2013 Suburban tpms relearn

Decided with pur tires going flat we would upgrade our old 20s from our suburban to a new set of takeoffs. Took it to pepboys where weve gone before, installed tires, wheels and they added sensors. They left the old wheels and tires alpne of course. All was fine, but 5 minutes from the house my tpms light came on and none of them would read. Next day i went to take it back, they miraculously all worked, so i let it go. Fast forward a few more days and once again ot working. So, i took it in today, only for pepboys to tell me their scantool was locked out and the computer was programmed to the tpms. My question is am i missing something here? Not sure how they all 4 read just fine when they were installed and relearned. Just find it weird for all 4 to go and now all 4 will not accept a relearn. No previous issues before either. Any input is appreciated

You could try the reprogram for location procedure that's built in to the computer.

Also if they are the original sensors which are now approaching 9 years old then the batteries may be run down in them.

i think i figured it out. Naturally, i told them just leave the old tires alone thinking they were installing new tpms sensors like most tire places do. On my reciept, pepboys replaces the valve stem, but then charges at $1 each a "tpms rebuild". That tells me they are not new, and either are not correct, or like you said the batteries are crapped out. I asked what frequency was installed and of course they could not tell me. Shame on me for thinking theyd be smarter. At the very least i would have ordered new oem to throw in

I'm not sure what the rebuild for $1 was because these are not rebuildable units. The battery is not replaceable. I doubt they replaced them for free. They are not cheap. Maybe what they did was replace the valve stem core. Most places do replace those when you buy tires from them.

Ahhh i gotcha, yea definitely weird. I am going to try calling tomorrow to see, but im still leaning with whatever they put in not being compatible, fingers crossed. If it was mine id just roll with it till the next set of tires but my wife didnt approve lol

I would not let Pep Boys empty my ashtray. I use my dealer now for tires, they price match the competition and do not scratch and mar up my wheels like the local tire monkeys.

Well guys, as far as an update, we wont be going back. Called ragarding them installing bum sensors and they are refusing to unmount and remount. To add im not paying another $200-$400 to do them all. To prove that i cheated with the pvc tube trick and all 4 new sensors relearned just fine. Not really concerned for now, but once they wear down ill definitely be throwing these sensors in. Whopping $30 a set.
