Yes - that is the proper repair. You cannot replace the crush sleeve without disassembling the axle (i.e. pulling shafts and removing differential carrier) since you would need to reset the bearing preload with a new crush sleeve. It is also not as trivial a repair as it may sound since removing the pinion yoke releases the pinion bearing preload. The pinion nut must be reinstalled at thd exact pkace it was, so it would need to be marked prior to removal so that the preload is re-established when reinstalled.
