Default 2017 Suburban Rear Brake Noise

Looking for some knowledge. Brake Noise Question - New to me 2017 Suburban with 39k. Just got it from a dealer - truck is great - love it. Noticed some constant rear passenger brake noise. Constant squeal. Brought it back to where I got it and had the dealer check it out. Dealer put new brakes on it before I bought it. They are telling me it is the noise from a rough spot on the Semi Metallic Brake pads and noise will go away.

Does this sound right? When will the noise go away?

Thanks!

Sometimes brake pads have rough edges when new, and if the edges aren’t smoothed out before installation, they can act just like a squeal tab. However it could just as easily be the backing plate is slightly bent and making contact with the rotor or the parking brake drum has debris caught in it.

Your choices are to live with it, inspect them for yourself, or have another shop take a look. You can narrow down the source by looking for witness marks (very small grooves) on the rotor. You might be able to see them through the rim, but it’s usually easier to inspect for them with the wheel removed.

Semi Metallic pads are normally noisy. Ceramic pads are a better choice, only slightly more expensive.
