Tahoe & SuburbanThe power, space, and brutal towing ability make the Tahoe and its longer sibling, the Suburban, arguably the best full size SUV's on the market today.
I’ve got a 2018 Suburban that I put a set of AT4 takeoffs on. They look great, but I now need to recalibrate the speedometer since I have a bigger tire size. I’ve seen a few tuners that can do it such as Hypertech and Pulsar. Both are pricey. Does anyone have any recommendations or experience with this?
This came from the factory with the base 18” wheel with Michelins. They rode great and handled well. I’m a fan of Michelin tires though.
These AT4 wheels are 20” paired with an all terrain Goodyear Wrangler. They ride a little stiffer and there is a bit more road noise from the all terrain tread pattern. The difference is very minimal though.
This does have a 1.5” leveling kit on the front to help even out the rake and clear the taller tires.
I recommend hiring someone to do it. Ask around.
Dealer won't I've tried.
Yeah, I was just going to purchase a handheld tuner to do it. I was hoping to get some feedback on the different options offered before I buy one. They are pricey.
they're pricey and come with a steep learning curve. Not worth it unless you plan to go really down the rabbit hole and spend a lot of time learning to program cars. And then what? It makes sense if you want to get into a business.
I wanted to post my solution to help anyone out in the future who might read this:
I decided on buying a Superchips Flashpaq F5 Handheld Tuner. I found the best price on Amazon and paid $375 for it. This tuner will recalibrate the speedometer and do a whole lot more. It also has a few different tunes programmed into it. I've been running the 87 octane tune and have noticed a nice difference. The Suburban is more responsive and the shifting feels better. There is also a tune designed for towing that I am looking forward to trying in the future if we are able to purchase a camper.
This was a more expensive option than just buying a device to recalibrate the speedometer. BUT, I think the added ability to adjust more things and the tunes are worth the extra money. Superchips is made by Holley, and that also made me feel better about getting a quality product and safe tunes.
