Default 2018 Tahoe catastrophic engine failure at 65k miles

Last month while driving on a road trip the “low oil pressure” indicator came on. I immediately pulled over and had it towed to nearest Chevy dealer.

The service department said it had plenty of oil but appears there is a deep knock coming from engine and sounds like a rod bearing has failed. I was told that a new engine is needed, a less expensive option than rebuilding it. Engine has 65,000 miles on it, with a 60,000 powertrain warranty.

So here is the real issue…there are no engines available due to part supply problem in auto industry and there is no timeline on a resolution, in the meantime I have 2 years left of my GM Financial loan and dealer or GM is unable to provide me a loaner…so I’m out a car with no options. And I can’t really trade it in unless I want to take a huge hit on value.

I have a case open with GM and Service Director at dealership who have been in contact with local GM rep. No resolution yet and I’m getting frustrated.

any thoughts on my options?

I wouldn't hold my breath hoping GM would cover it.

There are other rebuilt engine options than a "genuine GM" crate engine. Local radio show mechanic uses Jasper engines at his shop.

Check your auto insurance for car rental ?

I have seen good companies that covered failure after warranty. Don’t give up on that. Stay calm and stay connected (squeaky wheel)

Be sure to get a second opinion, an independent shop if GM drops it.

Good luck, praying for you.

Im terms of cost, I was able to negotiate with GM rep and Service Director at dealer from $13700 to $4200 to just $100 + tax ($110 total for parts and labor). Crazy I know!

Now playing the timeline game which is issue due to no available parts. Will keep thread updated.

Better off with the GM reman. Jaspers don't have a good reputation. And GM warranty is nationwide. 3 yr / 100k miles.
