Default >240,000 miles ... worth it?

I'm looking for a used Burb, and I came across an '02. Single owner. Seller says maintained meticulously. The pics on the interior are spotless, so if the mechanical was kept up to the same bar, then this could be a good lead.

So far, the only mechanical info I have other than maintenance, is that the transmission was recently replaced.

I'm nervous about the mileage. It's got 247k on the dial. Even if this has been maintained very well, I just wonder if it's worth buying a burb with this many miles on it.

Can anyone chime in and comment on if I should expect any longevity at all out of a vehicle like this?

Thanks,
Brian

Our 93 has 340k and runs great. Uses a qt of oil every 2000 mi. Oil pressure runs low when warmed up indicating wear. Tranny (4l60e) was changed at about 250k. It's been a good rig - got it in 95, was wife's dd, got the kids back and forth to school for 16 yrs, son drove it back and forth Seattle-Portland 3 yrs for school, fairly easy to work on for this driveway mechanic. I have considered selling as it seems a bit silly or politically incorrect for us to have two subs in our driveway and kids are now out of house - but don't think I can get what it's been worth to me (sentimental value) and once in a while I really need it (so I don't trash my bride's ride). I still wouldn't hesitate to take it on a big road trip if needed.
How much $$ and what are your driving plans?

Default Price

It's listed for $4800.

We'll need to do a cross country trip in it within a month or do. Then, mainly around town about 4 days a week (short errand trips).

Also, an occasional road trip.

I would have your reputable mechanic give it a good physical exam 1st then!

Agreed. I think the "single owner, all maintenance done w/ records" makes it worth a look. And the high mileage and planned use makes it important to have a mech take a peek.

The mileage on your Burb gives me hope . Thanks for chiming in.

Routine maintenance and a little luck go a long way! Four of our five vehicles are over 200,000 mi, 2 over 300 (granted the 68 el camino from college days is waiting patiently in the garage for a "someday" restoration and not currently driveable)

walk away for that money. unless it has had a major engine overhaul things like head gasket etc are bound to be in your near future.

The 93 as discussed before were bulletproof engines (5.7 tbi) . the 5.3 are not the same caliber.

Sledge, you better not be jinxing me! Our 05 with 5.3 just turned over 200k and runs great, no oil use between changes - time will tell I guess. Hope I can sleep tonight after reading this!!
