Default 4 wheel drive issue

Woke up this morning and my dash says "4 wheel drive service" and my selector switch will not stay in auto. Im at work for 12 hours just seeing if I can get an idea before I get home to work on it. Works in 2 wheel drive and 4 wheel drive but will not stay in auto. Thanks for any suggestions

Default 2007 tahoe 5.3

It's a 2007 tahoe , with a 5.3. All stock funny thing is is when I came out of work yesterday after I had posted this thread and started my vehicle and everything seemed to be fine and there was no indicator light for the 4 wheel drive. All I can say is that it was the first single digit morning of the season and as the day progressed and warmed up , it seemed to work itself out. And it was just the auto option on the selector switch, the light would blink and would not let me engage in auto. 2 wheel drive worked so I went to work. i can hear the actuator engaging when I switch back and forth from 2 to Auto to 4 so im not sure 😅 😕 🤔 🙏🏻
