Default 95 Suburban Not Shifting from 1st

My 95 Chevy Suburban from time to time, races in rpms, then will not shift out of 1st. It seems to be related to the gauges wigging out. After turning off and sitting, it usually returns to shifting fine.

Anybody experience anything like this?

Don't know about the guages causing this, could be a power problem. You have solenoids in the tranny that may not be getting power to shift. That also could be from loose wireing from the steering column.
