CEL light is back on and spitting and sputtering again! Replaced distrib and rotor last time and it took care of the problem(not injectors). Does anyone know if something could be killing the distributor cap and rotor? Replaced with AC Delco parts so shouldn't be bad yet. Plugs are AC Delco and replaced last time when this happened so wouldn't think it would be those either. How do you tell if a plug is fouled? FYI: seems to be worse at 60 mph when running steady.

It also sounds like I have an exhaust leak under the hood. Could this have something to do with it?

Thanks,

Haven't had a reader on it yet. I actually posted this question as "Missing Again!" so as not to keep this thread running on and on. Thanks for asking and I will see if I can get it read tomorrow.

Hi, Im Ryan, new to the forums and proud new owner of a 97 2DR Tahoe.
I know this is an old thread but i've found it has A LOT of useful information. I bought my truck with a p0300/random misfire code deciding to take over project and getting it in working order. Thru what I have read, I am experiencing many of the same problems as others have. My truck is misfiring bad and has a flashing SES light along with a strong smell of gasoline at idle. So today I put in new spark plugs, fuel filter, checked my fuel pressure etc.. just a basic tune up to see if that fixed my problem. It made it a tad better, but the misfire is still there. My fuel pressure is around 60-65psi so i figured it's not my pump. I've done my research on these 5.7s and found that they have an upgraded fuel injection system that replaces the poppets and is the answer to a great deal of peoples problems with misfiring. Im leaning towards doing the conversion to the new upgraded unit but was wondering if its worth trying to get the existing fuel injection system working again.. Could my problem simply be the fuel pressure regulator "a 40 dollar part" ....but could this be my problem even if im getting good pressure? Any other ideas or input is greatly appreciated. sorry to ressurrect an old post from 2009 but im sure glad I found it!
Thank you
Ryan

Ryan: Welcome to the forum.

Glad you got some help here. Do let us know how it works out so others can benefit.

Wasn't '97 the last year for the 2dr? I know good ones are hard to find now.

Thanks Shark, I want to say they had them in 98 but im not for sure. Im starting to think mine isn't a "good one" I bought it because it was a good price and out here in AZ they are pretty rare also, i've always like the the looks. But after a thorough run thru im finding problem after problem..im working on the most important areas now but i can see myself ordering lots of parts in the near future! glad to be here though!

Just want to say i've installed the new Upgrade spider fuel assembly and WOW what a difference!!! My truck is running great with no more misfiring, or strong smell of gasoline! It has given it more power and better fuel economy, thanks for all the help.
