99 chevy suburban k1500
I have the same problem. I just replaced the fuel pump(that is a joy) and have spark on all cylinders, but no start. Have ~65-70psi fuel pressure at the rail now and does not leak down. I have a charger on the battery and get plenty of crank. I replaced the air filter last night, same result. I have all 3 of the necessary components for firing, air, fuel(at least at the rail), and spark. What would you suggest I look at next. I have lurked for a while and see there is a lot of knowledge here. Hope someone can help. Thanks in advance.
Guess I should say that it is a 97 1/2 ton with the 5.7 and ~260k miles. Before, she would run and then stall out at the least opportune times. Put a pressure guage on it and watched as I drove. It was dropping to 40 when it was stalling out and then would come back to 60 or so. Parked it for a while and then she would not start. My daughter needs a car now and I figured I would get her going again. At least she will have some metal around her when, no if, she has an accident.
if you have fuel and fire, the next important thing is timing. If your getting spark than the timing chain should be ok, so mechincal timing is ok. That leaves ignition timing, controlled by the ignition module and computer. Are you checking for spark at the coil or at the plug? Make sure your cap and rotor are good.
If fuel pressure is good, the injectors are firing, and you have spark at the plugs, I would suspect the ignition module.

Timing is for sure the next thing you should check. If you have a scanner available, watch your data while cranking and make sure u are getting a signal from your crank sensor (ckp). If that's good I would check on an ignition control module like mentioned before.
OK, got her running. Ended up buying a spark tester. Looked like it was getting spark, but only weakly. Pulled the cap and rotor and they looked shot. Tried to clean them up with the same result. Went and purchased a new cap and rotor and installed. Started up like a champ. Checked the oil level and the oil looks like mocha, or cappuccino. Drained the oil and changed it just now with a new filter, Going to drive it around for a little while and then check it again. My son says it is probably the intake gasket. Hope to have more of an idea if it is really bad or not in a few days.
