Default Auto 4WD noise when rolling to a stop.

2005 Tahoe Z71: I've noticed a noise from under the truck when I use the Auto 4WD button as I decelerate and coast to a stop. It resembles the noise or hum of knobby tires on a smooth paved surface. Putting it back to 2WD eliminates the noise. Any ideas? Thanks in advance. Jon

Default RE: Auto 4WD noise when rolling to a stop.

just a guess; but I think in 'auto' the front hubs (actually where the shafts meet the front diff) are connected? so the shafts / diff is causing more drag, but enables it to go into 4WD fast, just leave it in 2WD if its not snowing.... save some gas / wear and tear
