Default Auto dimming mirrors

The drivers side mirror and the rear view mirror are dim all of the time. At night they are impossible to see out of. We can turn off the function each time we get it, but would like to know how to fixi the problem.

in my 07 you hold the power button on the rearview mirror for 10 seconds then the green light will turn off and you can actually see out of them at night.

No but I'm not sure why as when you're in the left lane of a multiple lane freeway, there's cars over on that side.

I know that you can temporarily turn it off. But is there a way to fix that? I do not want them dark all of the time.
