Default brake upgrade

do you have to upgrade your brakes if you get 22 in. rims or are factory good enought if so why?

Factory brakes are fine. Factory brakes were designed to stop that vehicle. The only reason to upgrade brakes is for performance or looks and I doubt you're racing it.

I personally would. You are changing the rotational inertia. For every inch that you increase wheel size, the rotational force is exponetially increased. So you for 2" over stock you need 4 times the braking distance. For 4" larger wheels you need 48 times the stock force. So I would upgrade brakes, if not a big brake kit, I'd go with R1 Concept rotors and their pads with braided stainless steel brake lines.

I agree bigger brakes might be a consideration but NO way is stopping distance 4 times longer with 22s over 20s.

He may have made up for the rim height with lower profile tires. In that case rolling mass would be the consideration.
