Most of the problems with some of the earlier build units were minor and resolved with software, my wife drives an early build Tahoe (with updated software) and we have had no problems with the vehicle.

One thing that you'll want to do is inspect the condition of the vehicle before the purchase, there can be lot damage, but if it looks good and drives nice then I wouldn't hesitate to make the purchase.

I agree with ZX. Mine is an Early 06 build that I purchased in the fall and so far so good. I do need to go in for a software update, but its nothing major and is not causing any problems.

I did test drive another Tahoe the day I bought mine that was just of the delivery truck (Still had plastic on the seats), but for some reason did not seem to drive that smooth. Maybe it was just a simple balancing of the wheels that was needed, but I opted for the earlier build also because I liked the body color mirrors, grill, and handles that came stock on Early LTZ's.

I purchased my 07 tahoe the first week of September 2006, the build date was the 2nd week of August of 2006. I have had zero issues with the tahoe...I think you will be fine...

I too have a very early built 2006. I have had great luck with my truck. I think they received a large amount of attention when being built and turned out well.

What's the VIN?

And I'll tell you what day the vehicle was built.
